The Arapaima is a river fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which will probably surprise you when you see just how big it is. For the northern hemisphere, this fish is only available from June to September (southern hemisphere folks can find them December - March). To catch Arapaima, you need to be fishing between 4pm and 9am. That means early morning, or late afternoon and evening are the best times to catch Arapaima.

You can catch Arapaima in any river section, so don’t worry about heading up the cliffs. We recommend crafting a bunch of fish bait, then heading over to the river and fishing away. You’re after a large shadow, which should be quite distinct. Most river fish are of small or medium size, so the Arapaima should stand out.
