If you’re wondering how to catch an Arowana in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you’re not alone. Like the Arapaima, the Arowana is a rare fish found in river areas in the Northern Hemisphere. To elaborate on these things further, you’ll want to start river fishing at 4 p.m. and keep an eye out for a large fish shadow.

If you’re fishing during the correct time (4 p.m. until 9 a.m.) there’s a chance this large fish shadow is an Arowana. Alternatively, you could catch yourself an Arapaima, or a common fish like the Black Bass. We know, we’re sick of catching Black Bass too. The key to catching an Arowana is time and patience.

If you’re having a hard time getting fish to spawn, you can always try a little Fish Bait to lure them out. You can also go on a Mystery Island Tour and keep your fingers crossed for a fish island. We caught our Arowana on a fish island with a large spiral river in the center. We also caught a Great White Shark here.

It’s worth it to try a few Mystery Island Tours starting at 4 p.m. because you could seriously up your chances of catching rare fish on some of these islands! Once you catch an Arowana, be sure to give the first one to Blathers. After that, you can sell the rest of your freshly caught Arowana for 10,000 Bells a piece. Not bad, right?

Again, the Arowana can only be caught in river areas from 4 p.m. until 9 a.m. in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
