To sleep next to your horse in Ghost of Tsushima, you need to complete liberation missions to free villages and farmsteads around the island. Unlike actions like cleaning your sword, you can’t choose to snooze with your horse any time you want. Instead, it’s an animation which has a chance to play after completing certain missions.

Each time you wrap up a mission that involves a change in the world, you’ll notice that you’ll return to Jin in some form of relaxing state. It can be meditating, having a cup of tea, or drinking from his gourd. The sleeping animation is just the same, only it’s one you can leave Jin and his horse in for a good while, though sadly you can’t enter photo mode to take some fun shots while they’re napping. We got the sleeping animation when liberating the river farmstead to the west of Jade Hills in the Izuhara region. We recommend engaging in this type of mission if you want to get the animation to play.
