The first thing you’ll need to decide if you want to play multiplayer in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is whether you want to play Jams or Competitive. The two are similar in terms of the game modes you’ll play, but Jams is casual whereas Competitive is… well, competitive.
If you’re unfamiliar with the game’s multiplayer, we recommend starting with Jams. After selecting Jams or Competitive, you’ll connect to a multiplayer session with other players. When there are enough players in a room, the match will countdown and begin.
Each match centers around a different multiplayer mode, with all of the multiplayer modes cycling through at random. The maps you play on also cycle at random. - Graffiti: In Graffiti, you’ll need to perform tricks on different objects from rails to ramps. By performing a trick successfully, you’ll mark that object with your designated color. Other players have the chance to steal by performing a trick that’s worth more points on the object you tagged. Likewise, you can steal objects from other players by surpassing the score earned by the previous player’s trick. At the end of the match, whoever has tagged the most objects wins. If you’re having a hard time stealing, you can also get strategic by tagging smaller items like benches or short rails, or by visiting a location that’s farther away from where most players are skating.
- Trick Attack: In Trick Attack, you’ll skate freely and will need to rack up as many points as possible. The match is timed, when the timer runs out, the player with the highest score wins.
- Score Challenge: In Score Challenge, you’ll compete against other players to reach a designated score. Whoever reaches this score first wins. For example, the first player to 150,000 wins.
- Combo Challenge: In Combo Challenge, you’ll need to meet a designated score similar to the Score Challenge mode. However, this score needs to be earned through a combo. For example, the first player to perform a combo worth 100,000 wins.
- Combo Mambo: In Combo Mambo, there’s no designated score. Instead, you’ll skate freely and will need to perform a combo worth the highest score you can earn. The match is timed, when the timer runs out, the player with the highest combo score wins.
- Tag: In Tag, one player will be marked as “it” at the beginning of the match and will pass that title off to another player by running into them and “tagging” them. To win, you’ll want to avoid being “it” as much as you can.
- H-O-R-S-E (Local Multiplayer Only): Unlike the other game modes on the list, H-O-R-S-E is exclusive to local multiplayer. In this mode, you’ll go back and forth with another player. The goal is to earn a combo score higher than the player you’re competing against. If you fail, you earn a letter. You’ll keep playing until one of you earns H-O-R-S-E and loses.
Of the multiplayer modes, the one that may give you the hardest time is Graffiti as it’s not immediately made clear how to steal objects from other players, or how they steal objects from you. The key there is the score you earn on that object and whether someone can surpass that score and steal the object from you.
The other modes are mainly dependent on score with practice making perfect. The more you play, the easier it’ll be to figure out how to earn the score needed to win on each different map.
