Destiny 2 next gen patch out today, cross-play coming 2021

Destiny 2's next gen patch on PS5 and Xbox Series X is now live to download, though it could require you to download the entire game again so don't expect to be playing it as soon as you're done with work or school today.

To download the Destiny 2 next gen update on PS5, you'll need to go to View Game in your game library, then from the extra options on the game's store page pick the new "PS5 Full Game" option to download. See below for visual guide, thanks to The Verge's Tom Warren.

For Xbox Series X users, it should just download as a 70GB update for you. That's lucky! Hopefully Sony will get the hang of these cross-gen updates eventually.

The next gen update for Destiny 2 adds 4K resolutions for the console versions, with 60 frames per second and 120Hz in Crucible mode (for monitors or TVs that support it). You can also customize your field of view on console up to 105 degrees, for the fisheye fans.

If you're already looking ahead to what's next for Destiny 2 in the coming seasons then you'll be pleased to know the cross-play between all platforms is scheduled for this coming year, along with a load of other hotly anticipated quality of life improvements.

In a blog post talking about the changes to rewards, Power, Infusion Caps and dozens of other changes, current and upcoming, Bungie's assistant game director on Destiny 2 Joe Blackburn also announced that crossplay would finally arrive in 2021.

Other changes coming in the next three seasons (we're currently in Destiny 2 Season 12) include:
