How to prevent overheating in Cyberpunk 2077

Overheating got you burned out? Chill, we've got you covered.

In Cyberpunk 2077, V can be affected by a status condition called overheating. V begins to overheat when they are being hacked by enemy netrunners, and it causes them to take health damage. Overheating can be rough, especially during really intense combat encounters or when you're first getting a hang of how to play. But don't worry, there are a few ways to keep other hackers at bay, and we're here to help!

If you're in a combat situation and are taking damage despite not being actively attacked, chances are you've been hacked by an enemy. In this game, anything you can do to enemies, they can do back to you, including debilitating and annoying quickhacks. If you want to stay out of their crosshairs, there are a few things you can do.

Firstly, when you're entering a combat encounter you should make it a priority to fully scan the whole area before you start a fight. By scanning enemies, you can get data on which of them can hack you back. Once you know who's able to overheat you, you should focus on taking them out right away. Additionally, while you're scanning areas don't forget to disable any security cameras you find. These can be used to track and hack those you're fighting, and they can do the same.

If you've found yourself already overheating, there's only one solution: cut it off at the source. That's right, if you're already under attack you will need to kill or incapacitate the person responsible. To help out with these sticky situations, it may be wise to invest in the I Spy quickhacking perk. You'll need 5 intelligence to unlock it, but it's worth the investment since it allows you to see enemy netrunners who are trying to hack you. With this equipped you'll be able to stop the bleeding quickly and hopefully save yourself some grief in battle.
