New Pokemon Snap sends you to Lental region this April

The New Pokemon Snap game will feature new mechanics in a fresh location for you to document with your camera.

New Pokemon Snap will release on April 30 for Nintendo Switch, sending you to the wild Lental region with unique subjects to take photographs of.

The Lental region, revealed in today's release date trailer, is an archipelago with islands that have different climates like deserts and jungles (geographically unlikely, but quite useful as a differentiating factor for a game with type-specific habitats).

As with the original Pokemon Snap, you'll be travelling around these habitats taking photos of the Pokemon that reside there, hoping to catch them at just the right time to satisfy Professor Mirror's research requests.

Your scores will be based on your subjects’ poses – how large they appear, how directly they’re facing you, and their placement within the frame. As you take photos and keep researching, you may get to see Pokemon look and behave in different ways than before.

Their behavior also ties into this game's new mechanic, Illumina, which will give your Poke-subjects a distinct glow-up during their shoots.

"Pokemon and vegetation in Lental have sometimes been seen to glow. This is known as the Illumina phenomenon, which is unique to the Lental region in New Pokemon Snap," the game's official site reads.

"At the request of Lental’s own Professor Mirror, you’ll venture from island to island on an ecological survey, floating safely along in your trusty pod, the NEO-ONE, as you photograph Lental Pokémon and their habitats to uncover the truth behind the Illumina phenomenon."

We hope that truth isn't "Team Rocket has been illegally dumping nuclear waste in the Lental isles."

New Pokemon Snap releases on Nintendo Switch on April 30, you can pre-order the game now for $59.99 on the eShop.
