Narrative adventure Heaven’s Vault is now available on Nintendo Switch.

The first 3D title developed by Inkle Studios, Heaven’s Vault first released on PC and PS4 back in 2019. Two years later and Nintendo Switch owners are now able to set sail on the winds between worlds as well.

The story to Heaven’s Vault follows architect Aliya and her robot companion Six as they explore ancient ruins scattered across the Nebula they call home. By sailing across stellar winds to different lands, Aliya and Six piece together the history and fall of this lost society.

Throughout the course of the game players piece together an entire ancient pictorial language. By testing phrases and piecing together sentences, Aliya (and the player) will rework their understanding of locations and the society they’re investigating as a whole. It’s a complex puzzle that doesn’t hold your hand, but won’t leave you feeling completely clueless as your progress, either.

We spoke with inkle founder Joseph Humfrey in the run up to the game’s PS4 and PC release, discussing how they created an ancient language and the game’s lead protagonist. You can read the first part of the interview by clicking here, and the second part by clicking here.

The fascinating puzzle of figuring out the ancient language had us enraptured with Heaven’s Vault when we reviewed it back in 2019, describing it as a “delight to pry open and lose yourself in.” Read the full review by clicking here if you want to learn more.
