HyperX RAM sets a world record for overclocked memory speeds

A module of HyperX Predator DDR4 RAM hit 7156MHz clock speeds, with a little help from liquid nitrogen.

A stick of HyperX RAM has set a new world record for the fastest clock speeds on a memory module, coming in at a blistering 7156MHz.

The overclocking achievement was made by Taiwanese builder Kovan Yang, as part of a team effort by the MSI OC Team to take the lead in the HWBOT tables.

Using an 8GB module of HyperX Predator DDR4 RAM (sitting in an MSI MEG Z590i Unify mobo with an 11th Gen Intel i9-11900KF @ 3.5 GHz), Yang was able to push the stick way past its 4600MHz sticker frequency.

To handle the extreme heat caused by overclocking a RAM module to this extent, Yang used liquid nitrogen as a coolant in a specially modified heatsink, radiator and coolant pump system. So don't expect to be able to pop open your case and do this at home without some extensive reading. It also doesn't look quite as flashy as the RGB LED casing the RAM usually comes in, but it has a certain aesthetic appeal if you like to wear a white coat and goggles while gaming.

The HyperX Predator DDR4 range has expanded its available stock clock speeds to 4800MHz, so you don't have to go digging around with subzero liquid coolant systems.
