Wilderness Rod

The Wilderness Rod is a four star, beginner rod in Genshin Impact. You will need to complete the Exploding Population quest in Mondstadt to unlock this rod. Exploding Population is the quest that opens up Genshin Impact's fishing system, so you'll obtain this rod fairly early in your angler journey.

As the first rod you get, Wilderness Rod is pretty basic. It doesn't provide any extra buffs or anything, but instead serves as a solid starter tool.

Narukawa Ukai

The Narukawa Ukai is a four star fishing rod you can obtain from the Inazuma Fishing Association. It's inspired by the ancient Ukai, or Cramorant, fishing method, and is designed to match the bird.

To obtain the Narukawa Ukai, you'll need to visit Kujirai Momiji's shop in Inazuma. Snagging it will cost you several fish: 20x regular Medaka, 20x Glaze Medaka, 20x Lunged Stickleback, and 20x Purple Shirakodai.

According to its description, "If you can stay within the Ideal Tension Zone while fishing, this rod will shorten the time in which fish will struggle by a stable amount and increase your chances of success. This effect only works in Inazuma." Basically, this rod provides a buff while you're in the Ideal Tension Zone when fishing in Inazuma that shortens the length of time a fish is on the line before you've successfully caught it.

Windtangler, put simply, is Mondstadt's version of the Narukawa Ukai. You can obtain it from the Mondstadt Fishing association.

Visit Nantuck's shop in Mondstadt to purchase the Windtangler. You'll need 20x regular Medaka, 20x Aizen Medaka, 20x Venomspine Fish, and 20x Tea-Colored Shirakodai.

Windtangler features the same buff description as Narukawa Ukai, and provides the same benefit, but only in the Mondstadt region.

Wishmaker

Following the trend, Wishmaker is Liyue's version of the buffed rod, available through the Liyue Fishing Association.

You'll need to check out Jiawei's shop in Liyue to buy Wishmaker. It'll cost you 20x regular Medaka, 20x Sweet-Flower Medaka, 20x Betta, and 20x Brown Shirakodai.

This rod also reduces fish struggle time, but only in Liyue.

To make fishing easier across all three regions, you'll need to pick up all three of these rods, the irony of course being that you have to trade in fish to get them in the first place. But every great fisher knows it takes practice to hone a craft. For more Genshin Impact features and guides, check out our game hub.
