To get Pulse Radar early, you’ll need to have unlocked the Grapple Beam. This is found in the Artaria region after you’ve gained the Morph Ball Bomb, Flash Shift, and Speed Booster. Once you’ve got it, return to the Cataris region and head to the red, hot area located under the Network station in the top left of the region.

You’ll need to enter through the lower left entrance, above the Save Room and teleporter. Jump over the lava patches along the bottom of the corridor (killing or avoiding enemies in the way), then climb up to the platform on the right. Jump back across to the platform higher up to your left.

From the left edge here, you should be able to see a blue spider track surface on the ceiling, as shown on the map above. You need to grapple onto this surface, then aim and shoot the wall to the left of the track. There’s a hidden block here which, when destroyed, leaves a morph ball tunnel open.

Climb inside the morph ball track and roll through to find the Orange Teleportal. Before you hop through, use the Grapple Beam again to open the path in the top right, making it easier to return here in future if needed. Take the teleporter to access Ghavoran for the first time. Open the Charge Beam door then drop into the morph ball hole behind it. Follow the tube to the left, but don’t drop down to the bottom of the large pipe. Instead, hop up into the nook to the top left. If you fall down the hole, you’ll need to use Morph Ball Bomb jumps to get back up again.

Once up in this nook, roll left and you’ll fall through a Pitfall Block to reach a new chamber. There’s a blocked doorway here, but also a hidden hole in the bottom left corner. Fall down through this to arrive in the Pulse Radar chamber. Once you’ve collected it, test the power out to discover a hidden block in the wall to your right. Enter this and you can explore a little more of the region before being blocked by a flaming plant you can’t yet kill. You’ll now need to bomb and jump your way back up through the tunnels to reach the Orange Teleportal and return to Cataris.

Now that you’ve learned how to get Pulse Radar early in Metroid Dread, you can explore much more of the game and collect items by scanning any flashing sectors of the map. For more useful tips and tricks, click here to head to our hub page for the game.
