Moonglow Bay is an Xbox exclusive slice of life sim from Bunnyhug and Coatsink that focuses on fishing and trying to rebuild a small local economy. Though styled similarly to something like Stardew Valley, Moonglow Bay is more narrative focused, with the story split into chapters. In order to get access to more of the game's features, like additional fishing rods and the Sea Market, players will need to complete the first chapter of Moonglow Bay, which includes a pseudo-boss encounter that can be a bit tricky. But with our guide, you'll get through it in no time.
Moonglow Bay Chapter 1 boss guide
To finish Chapter 1 in Moonglow Bay, you will need to advance the "Monster of Moonglow Bay" questline in your journal. This is relatively easy. You just need to follow the prompts from River and the locals to find evidence connected to the so-called monster and trace it back to the beast. Doing so will lead you to a secret little lake where an enormous whale, the "monster" that's been damaging the ships in Moonglow Bay, is hiding out. River notices that the whale has harpoons stuck in its back, which is likely what's making it so aggressive.
Luckily, your character can help the whale using their fishing rod. Position your boat near the whale, just within your rod's cast range. You don't want to be too close to the whale when a harpoon comes out, as it will damage your boat. Highlight a harpoon with your casting marker. It should turn white. From here, you'll need to reel it in the way you would a fish, but be very careful not to get the line all the way red, otherwise it'll snap and you'll have to start over. Once you remove one harpoon, the whale will thrash and swim to a new spot in the hidden lake. You'll need to rinse and repeat the process of pulling harpoons out with your fishing rod, but the next two will each be more difficult, as they last longer and require extra directional and button/keyboard inputs.
Once all three harpoons are out of the whale, it will thank you happily and you'll progress to Moonglow Bay's second chapter. For more Moonglow Bay features and guides, check out our game hub.
