Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ permanent ladders are called wooden ladder set-up kits. To get them you’ll first need to purchase the Ladder Set-Up Kit Recipe from Nook’s Cranny. Access the cabinet within the store to find the recipe at the bottom of the list.
Once purchased you’ll need to learn the recipe and head to a crafting station. Creating a wooden ladder set-up kit costs the following resources:
- 1x Ladder
- 5x Wood

Make sure you create extra ladders, otherwise you’ll lose the portable one needed when you explore mystery islands! Fortunately, creating new ladders is very easy, so long as you have a few pieces of each wood type spare. Craft the ladder, then craft the wooden ladder set-up kit. You can also customize the permanent ladder to change it from natural to red, blue, yellow, green, and white color designs.

Once you have your wooden ladder set-up kit, head to the place on your island that you want it and face the wall. Open your inventory and select the kit, then select Set Next to Cliff. This will place a permanent ladder in Animal Crossing New Horizons. If you’re unhappy with the position, you can pick the permanent ladder back up and reposition it easily.
