10 surprising celebrities who love video games

When rapper Drake joined Twitch streamer Ninja for an online session of Fortnite, the internet pretty much exploded - as did Ninja's subscriber count. But the Canadian superstar isn't the first celebrity to show off their love of video games, and as more and more people grow up taking gaming for granted, he definitely won't be the last. Here's our list of the 10 least likely famous gamers...

10. Henry Cavill

You wouldn't think this British-born actor would have time to play games, given the amount of gym time needed to maintain a superhero physique that resembles a small tractor, yet Cavill has admitted that when director Zack Snyder called him to say he'd got the role of Superman, he didn't answer the phone because he was too engrossed in World of Warcraft. We reckon he's got his priorities just about right.

9. Warwick Davis

He's best known for his roles as Wicket the Ewok in Star Wars, and Professor Flitwick in the Harry Potter series, but Warwick Davis has been an avid gamer ever since he was a kid in the 1980s. He was just 11-years-old when he shot Return of the Jedi, and passed the time afterwards playing on his ZX Spectrum computer. He's kept up the gaming habit ever since - and even appeared on the Yogscast YouTube channel.

8. Robin Williams

The sorely missed comedian and actor made no secret of his love of video games, especially his beloved Nintendo consoles. In fact, the Oscar-winning star even named his daughter Zelda after the classic RPG series. In 2011, father and daughter both appeared in a series of TV ads for the 3DS and Wii. Other games to get the Williams seal of approval include Portal, Half Life, Battlefield and Call of Duty, which he described as "cyber cocaine".

7. Megan Fox

The Transformers and Ninja Turtles star has spoken on many occassions of her love of playing on Xbox Live, saying in an interview with movie website Collider that her gamertag makes guys laugh and make fun of her, unaware who they're mocking. Fox is a big fan of Halo: Reach, prefering the multiplayer to the story mode, and in 2014 she demolished an MTV reporter in a video grudge match on Mortal Kombat.

You wouldn't think that an Oscar-winning actor and director, famous for her deadly serious dramatic chops, would be one to spend her evenings playing video games, but the Silence of the Lambs star has gone on the record as a big fan of Guitar Hero. "I have no musical ability," she's said. "I tried to learn the trumpet, that wasn't so good. The good thing about Guitar Hero is you can just go blue, green, green, green, blue, green, green…"

5. Vin Diesel

Although his muscle-bound turns in action franchises such as The Fast and Furious, xXx and Riddick suggest an athletic jock background, Vin Diesel has never tried to hide his nerdy past. He's admitted to spending hours playing Dungeons & Dragons, and is such a fan of video gaming that he set up his own development company, Tigon Studios. Not only did Diesel star in interactive hits like Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and action driving game Wheelman, he produced them too. That's dedication!

4. Rhonda Rousey

Olympic judo medal winner, MMA champion and now a pro WWE wrestler, Rhonda Rousey often looks like she'd be happier crushing a joypad than using it to play games. Don't be fooled - Rousey is a massive World of Warcraft fan, and once spent $1300 on WoW cards in the hope of getting a rare mount. Not only that, she and her husband, fellow UFC fighter Travis Browne, dressed up as Death Knights for the BlizzCon convention in 2017 and proudly shared their cosplay snaps on Instagram.

3. Daniel Craig

The James Bond movies are notorious for their product placement, but despite showcasing everything from luxury cars to expensive wristwatches, we've never seen 007 sit down for a mammoth Grand Theft Auto session but that probably would suit star Daniel Craig perfectly, as he's gone on the record as being a fan of the series - and games in general. In fact, when he took the part of Bond, he originally didn't want to do any tie-in games, because he knew previous efforts had been so bad!

2. Mila Kunis

Whether she's starring in hit movie comedies like Bad Moms, voicing characters on Family Guy or clocking up 200 episodes of That 70's Show, Mila Kunis has never allowed her frantic work schedule to get in the way of her gaming. Not only is she another celebrity World of Warcraft fanatic, even appearing on podcasts devoted to the game, but she also loves Call of Duty's Zombies mode.

1. John Carpenter

Iconic movie director John Carpenter has been scaring and thrilling audiences for over four decades with cult classic such as Halloween, The Thing and Escape from New York, and has been an avid gamer - and a vocal defender of gaming - for almost as long. He was such a fan of horror shooter F.E.A.R. that he helped direct the cutscenes for the third installment, and in 1998 composed the soundtrack for eerie strategy puzzle game Sentinel Returns. It's not all gore and tension, however: Carpenter also loves Sonic the Hedgehog. Maybe we can get him to direct the upcoming Sonic movie...
