How to Buy a Nintendo NES Classic Mini

An overview on how you can get your hands on this coveted Nintendo throwback.

There’s no denying the massive level of buzz the Nintendo NES Classic Mini has garnered since its initial announcement. This tiny little device contains 30 games—all of which will hit your childhood nostalgia hard—and is overall an incredibly well-built system.

We managed to get our hands on it and took the time to sift through many of the games offered. Because of this, we can say with complete certitude that if you’re a Nintendo fan, you’re going to want to buy this system.

The Nintendo NES Classic Mini officially goes on sale tomorrow, November 11th, and the question on everyone’s minds right now is… how can I buy the Nintendo NES Classic Mini?

Fret not retro gaming lovers, we’ve compiled everything we know about how to get your hands on this adorable little Nintendo throwback!

Retailers and Price Point

The Nintendo NES Classic Mini will be available through the following retailers (among others):

The price points sits at a fair $59.99, which is sure to secure this device a top spot on the wishlists of many holiday shoppers. Because of this—and because of the extremely limited stock of the device—we highly recommend you grab this device as soon as humanly possible. Ready to start prepping your game plan? Here’s everything we know!

On Amazon, the mini NES will be available starting at 2pm (PST) for purchase courtesy of this link. Keep in mind that it will only be up for grabs over the span of just a few minutes. Meaning that pre-loading the page far before the 2pm mark, then continuously refreshing the page, is the way to go.

Unfortunately, Amazon has decided to remove the one-click purchase option for this, so you’ll need to rely on your lightning fast hands to seal the deal! Best Buy has done away with pre-orders from the Nintendo NES Classic Mini, which means you may want to line up outside the retailer.

Best Buy

Best Buy is one of the many retailers that has done away with pre-orders for the beloved Nintendo NES Classic Mini, which means you may want to line up outside the retailer.

There will be no midnight openings, so check your closest Best Buy for store hours and prepare to show up early (how early depends on how hungry you are to buy the system, we say the earlier the better).

Additionally, if you’re feeling particularly lucky you can try the Best Buy website and do the old-fashioned page refresh trick in a similar manner to Amazon.

Yep, GameStop is also not taking pre-orders, and have announced via Twitter that the console will be available for purchase in-store starting on November 11th.

Again, we recommend using the same method as you would with Best Buy. Check the hours of your closest GameStop, and prepare to get there early. If you wish to try your luck, GameStop’s website also has a link for you. No guarantees, of course.

Similar to both Best Buy and GameStop, Target will take no pre-orders for the NES Classic and appear to have very limited quantities of the device. If you haven't had any luck at the stores we've mentioned, you can check the Target website to see if any are still available.

Nintendo Store (Manhattan, New York)

Do you live close enough to the Nintendo Store that is situated in New York? If so, you’re in luck, as the Nintendo Store has decided to offer a special event to celebrate the release of its brand new Nintendo NES Classic Mini.

The Nintendo Store will indeed have a midnight opening, but you’ll need to get there far before midnight to have any luck taking one of these consoles home. Why? Well, Nintendo plans to make only 250 NES Classic consoles available to those who participate in the store’s 80’s-themed event.

The line opens up at 5pm (EST), with Nintendo Store employees distributing wristbands to the first 250 people in that line at 7pm. So… we really emphasize getting there early. Either way, it sounds like a ton of fun!
