Legendary Pokémon Finally Coming to Pokémon GO

The first Legendary Pokémon will require player cooperation.

After months of rumors and speculation about how Legendary Pokémon will manifest in Pokémon GO, players finally have concrete confirmation of the elusive creatures. Niantic has announced that the first Legendary Pokémon will be revealed at Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago on Saturday, July 22nd

Finding the first Legendary Pokémon will require teamwork, however. A recent Niantic news post explains that, “If Trainers everywhere catch enough Pokémon during Pokémon GO Fest on July 22, 2017, the debut Legendary Pokémon will be unveiled!”

Basically, if Trainers around the world are able to capture enough Pokémon and complete Raids during the Pokémon GO Fest time frame on Saturday, then the developers will unleash the first Legendary Pokémon at Grant Park during the Chicago event. “If the first Legendary Pokémon is defeated in Chicago, it will then begin to appear in Legendary Eggs at Gyms around the world.”

Finding Legendary Pokémon

We'd love to see Mewtwo and Mew sooner than later in Pokémon GO.

Once Legendary Pokémon become available after the Pokémon GO Fest, players can then keep an eye out for them in Gyms around the world. Players can obtain Legendaries through the new Raid mechanic in Pokémon GO. Legendary Eggs will begin appearing over Gyms, signifying a Legendary Raid Battle. Trainers who successfully defeat a Legendary Raid Boss will have a chance to catch the Legendary Pokémon afterward.

Although Legendary Pokémon can be used during Raid and Gym battles to fight bosses, Legendary Pokémon cannot be left to defend Gyms, which makes sense.

Niantic also released a new trailer to commemorate the arrival of Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Various Legendary Pokémon are shown in the trailer, including Lugia, Ho-oh, Zapdos, and Moltres, to name a few. We’ll have to wait until Saturday to find out which of these monsters will be the first Legendary in Pokémon GO.

If you’re in the Chicago area on Saturday, then you can be among the first Trainers to obtain a Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO this weekend. Other Trainers will have to wait until the requirements are met before they can capture any Legendaries of their own.
