Mavericks: Proving Grounds Joins the Battle Royale Fray

The ambitious title will reportedly support up to 400 players on a single map.

The recently announced Mavericks: Proving Grounds by UK indie developer Automaton Games is the latest in a growing line of “battle royale” games. Unlike its counterparts PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite, Mavericks: Proving Grounds looks to increase the overall tension of its matches by supporting up to 400 players on a single map.

If successful, Mavericks: Proving Grounds could potentially offer one of the largest battle royale modes to date. For a better idea as to what Mavericks: Proving Grounds is, a new 40-second trailer was released during the PC Gamer Weekender. While the trailer itself is visually impressive, it’s sadly lacking in gameplay.

Among the details known about Mavericks: Proving Grounds is that it’ll be powered by Improbable’s SpatialOS, which should be more than capable of handling the game’s 400-player PvP according to reports. Additionally, matches will be substantially longer than those found in PUBG, lasting upwards of half an hour or more. Mavericks: Proving Grounds is currently set to release sometime later this year.

With all of the information coming out about the game, it’s definitely one that battle royale fans should keep on their radar! For more information on Mavericks: Proving Grounds, be sure to check out the latest interview with Automaton courtesy of PC Gamer.
