What we want from Nintendo at E3 2018

E3 2018 is a few short weeks away, and just like previous years, E3 2018 brings with it the possibility of big announcements from Nintendo. Right now, there isn’t much information available on what Nintendo has planned for E3 2018 (aside from showcasing Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch).

What we do know is that Nintendo has scheduled their main “press conference” for June 12 at 9 a.m. (PST) and 12 p.m. (EST). In addition, Nintendo likely has plans to host a Nintendo Treehouse event alongside their scheduled live tournaments. By keeping things under wraps, rumors have begun to crop up regarding what Nintendo will present at E3 2018.

We’ve addressed some of those rumors here at AllGamers, which include the possibility of a Nintendo 64 Mini Classic and the reveal of a new Pokémon title for Nintendo Switch. Will these rumors be confirmed at E3 2018? We certainly hope so! Taking things a step further, here’s a list of everything we want from Nintendo at E3 2018!

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch

We know that Nintendo will be unveiling new details about Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch at E3 2018. Naturally, the first thing we want is a confirmed release date. Ideally, we’re hoping Nintendo unveils the full trailer premier for Super Smash Bros. at E3 2018 with a release date tacked on at the end.

Should Nintendo confirm a date for Super Smash Bros. at E3, how soon can we expect the game to release? Well, not much is currently known about what Nintendo will launch during the fall. As such, it’s possible that Super Smash Bros. for Switch occupies the main focus of the company’s holiday plans.

If there’s anything we want from Nintendo at E3 2018, it’s a Super Smash Bros. for Switch trailer along with a promised fall 2018 release date!

Nintendo 64 Mini Classic

You might’ve heard about Nintendo’s trademark application which ties in to the Nintendo 64 somehow. Nintendo first applied for the trademark in July of 2017, and as of May 22, the trademark process had been completed. With the trademark’s completion comes the possibility of an announcement from Nintendo.

In addition to Super Smash Bros. we would love a confirmation at E3 2018 that Nintendo is indeed working on an N64 Mini Classic. A trailer and release date for the Nintendo 64 Mini Classic may not be within Nintendo’s E3 2018 plans. Although, like the Metroid Prime 4 teaser released during last year’s E3, it’s possible Nintendo has a promo image of the micro console ready to go.

Even if it doesn’t release this year, we’d love to see a Nintendo 64 Mini Classic teaser reveal during Nintendo’s Treehouse event at E3 2018.

Another rumor circulating the net centers around Nintendo’s plans to release a new Pokémon title for the Switch. We’ve already been speculating that Nintendo may have plans to release the game this year. This is because last year, Tsunekazu Ishihara (president of The Pokémon Company) stated that a new core RPG Pokémon title for Nintendo Switch will release in 2018.

The 2018 release window was later confirmed in an April financial report from Nintendo where the game was filed under the name “Pokémon RPG for Nintendo Switch.” With so many signs pointing towards a 2018 release date, it’s possible a trailer for the game is in the works. All in all, we can't help but want Nintendo to present a new Pokémon trailer at E3 2018.

Metroid Prime 4

Speaking of Metroid Prime 4, not much is known about the game outside of its reveal at E3 2018 and that Bandai Namco is working on the game. While we doubt Metroid Prime 4 will release in 2018, it’s not outside the realm of possibility to see some game footage this year.

Whether or not Nintendo plans to release another Metroid Prime 4 trailer remains to be seen. Best case scenario? We get a quick 30-second teaser of Metroid Prime 4 from Nintendo at E3 2018 which may, or may not, include a 2019 release window.

Fire Emblem and Yoshi

Both Fire Emblem and Yoshi were announced at E3 2017, though we’ve heard nothing about either game since. Like Metroid Prime 4, we’re not holding out for a 2018 release date on either Fire Emblem or Yoshi.

Of course, if Nintendo is rounding up trailers to show at E3 2018, it’s certainly likely that Fire Emblem and Yoshi will be included. In terms of what we want from Nintendo at E3 2018, gameplay trailers for both Fire Emblem and Yoshi would be great. 2018 release dates would be even better.

Star Fox: Grand Prix

A Star Fox racing game? Nintendo couldn't possibly be planning to show something like this at E3 2018, right? Not so fast. As of late, there's been no shortage of rumors about a new entry in the Star Fox series, Star Fox: Grand Prix.

According to these rumors, Retro Studios (Donkey Kong Country Returns) is currently working on a crossover Star Fox game due out in 2019. The game is based around racing and will reportedly feature an open hub world similar to Rare’s Diddy Kong Racing for Nintendo 64.

It’s a pretty “out there” idea overall, but that doesn’t mean it’s entirely false. If we had to guess, we'd say it’s possible that Nintendo will confirm Star Fox: Grand Prix at E3 2018 with either a teaser image or short trailer.

Fortnite

Last, but certainly not least, fans have been holding out for Fortnite on Nintendo Switch for quite some time now. And why shouldn't they? Fortnite on Switch isn’t as crazy of a rumor as Star Fox: Grand Prix, especially considering Fortnite is available on every other platform including mobile.

With Fortnite’s popularity continuing to surge, a Nintendo Switch release is only a matter of time at this point. With that in mind, we know we're not alone in wanting Nintendo to announce Fortnite for Nintendo Switch at E3 2018. The sooner the better!
