Update: Yep, Fortnite's on the Nintendo Switch eShop now. It'll be playable from 10am today, PST.
Original story: Fortnite Switch looks like it will release tomorrow.
Details of the Switch port for the popular Battle Royale game have been floating for some time, but it looks like the date has officially been confirmed, and it's sooner than you might think. Dataminer and Twitter user Simon Aarons posted details of the Switch release which included the date June 12, lining up nicely with the Nintendo Direct for E3.
If true this will be a nice surprise for Switch owners who've had to wait patiently for their version of the game. The game size is listed as a meagre 2GB which doesn't really seem reasonable, so we expect it to bulk out a bit larger than that. Then again, the Save the World portion of the game isn't listed, meaning Switch players may only have access to Battle Royale. A Switch release would likely follow the standard set by other versions, matching the release build of the current Xbox, PC, PS4 and Mobile releases. We're just hopeful that crossplay will be a thing.
The Switch makes the perfect fit for Fortnite's quick game lengths and colorful graphics so we can't wait to get our hands on it and see how it runs. Oddly, Chance the Rapper appears to have had some insider knowledge on this front, predicting the release in advance.
What a time to be alive. Fortnite for Switch may release tomorrow, June 12.
