Welcome back to another Tank Gawd It’s Friday, the series where we pose a question about World of Tanks to our community on the last working day of the week. We’ll kick off the conversation with our own answers, but what we really look forward to is hearing what you have to say in the comment section below.
This week, we’ll be looking through your responses and choosing one (or more) of our favorites, giving the winners an M4 Improved bundle in World of Tanks. Besides the tank itself, winning will also mean you get the garage slot to put it in, some Gold, Premium time, and a few boosters to finish it all off. Just keep a few things in mind. The contest is open to North America PC players only, and your response must be on this article itself, not Facebook or Twitter.
Question: What’s your favorite map, past or present, in World of Tanks?
Much like a few other people here, I’m fairly new to the World of Tanks scene, so my experience with some of the older and now-removed maps is limited. Though, I do appreciate that there are several maps players want brought back to World of Tanks.
For me, personally, I’ve had a lot of good experiences on the map Fisherman’s Bay. I really enjoy the long stretch of roads flanked by fields down Line 1, with the juxtaposition of the town in the east quadrant.
More often than not, I enjoy moving down the west in a Medium, or sitting at the rear of the west in a TD. Once a few of the enemies are cleared, I often brave the trek across the fields toward the town - I like to imagine people don’t expect such a wreckless display of driving!
While I’ve not played a lot of it, Wild Oaks can be enjoyable as well. I like shooting near the train tracks. All the ridges and dips make for some sneaky peek-a-boom play.
Because I haven’t been around World of Tanks for very long, my choice will be a current map, and I’m going with Malinovka. This is strictly a choice based on my success on that map, because truthfully, I prefer the visuals on Himmelsdorf much more than those of Malinovka.
The reason I’m taking Malinovka is because I’ve had some of my best games there (although I did get a Radley-Walters’ Epic Medal on Mines), including my personal best 2,700+ Damage in a single game. I realize that’s not a lot by many standards, but my skills haven’t progressed to the point where I play much above Tier 6.
What works for me on Malinovka is the open field in front of the spawns. I typically park my TD in one of the bushes on the line and begin collecting spotting damage, while simultaneously punishing anyone who dares try to cross that open field. There can be games where things are a bit slow, but more often than not I can have a really good round with this approach, and that’s why I’m always excited to see Malinovka pop up in my playlist.
In terms of aesthetic design and overall layout, I think my favorite World of Tanks map would have to be Sacred Valley. Although I never played the original version of it, the current version of this map works well for me.
First off, Sacred Valley is just gorgeous. There’s frosty foliage, snow dusted peaks, and pink cherry blossoms sprinkled throughout the land that make the map seem much more vibrant than others. Since I’m usually a Heavy tank, I spend most of my time on this map in the northern hill area, though I enjoy being able to roll through the villages to admire the pagoda-inspired structures when I can.
There’s a nice balance of both flat and elevated terrain on Sacred Valley, with just enough cover to hide from arty if you know where to go. I don’t run into this map as often as I’d like, so I’m always excited to play Sacred Valley when it pops up for a random battle.
Now, it’s your turn. Tell us which World of Tanks map is your favorite in the comments below. It can be an older map that you’d like to have brought back to the game, or a current map that you regularly enjoy. We’re looking forward to hearing your responses!
