Nintendo properties we'd love to see on Switch

Following its release in March of 2017, the Nintendo Switch has been rapidly expanding its catalogue of games with notable properties such as The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon. With the recent announcement of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which brings every character (sorry Waluigi) to Smash on Switch, there’s now more motivation than ever to buy the console if you haven’t already.

Of course, just because the Nintendo Switch lineup of games is impressive doesn’t mean there aren’t still games we’d love to see on the Switch at some point. Whether it’s remakes of popular titles or new series entries entirely, here are some Nintendo properties we’d absolutely love to see on Nintendo Switch!

Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing fans grow more and more dejected with every passing Nintendo Treehouse event. In 2017, one of the biggest teases happened when Nintendo announced Animal Crossing Pocket Camp... for mobile devices, not Switch. Talk about underwhelming. Despite the fact that Pocket Camp is a fun game in its own right, it isn’t exactly the Animal Crossing title we were all hoping for.

After all, the Nintendo Switch could be an amazing home for a brand new Animal Crossing title. For example, if you look at upcoming games like Pokémon: Let’s Go! Eevee and Pikachu, a plethora of ideas for a new Animal Crossing adventure pop up. Can you imagine exploring the world of Animal Crossing using Joy-Con controllers? Or with an accessory like the Poké Ball Plus? We sure can!

Hopefully Nintendo has a new Animal Crossing game for Switch in the works, and who knows, we may even hear about it at E3 2019.

Star Fox

Rumors about a new Star Fox game punctuated the realm of gaming news during the weeks leading up to E3 2018. With E3 having come and gone, there’s sadly been no word as to the legitimacy of Star Fox: Grand Prix. That said, we did get news that Star Fox’s very own Fox McCloud will be a playable character in Starlink: Battle for Atlas when it releases to Nintendo Switch.

This isn't exactly a new Star Fox game so much as a nifty bonus to encourage Switch owners to buy Starlink, though. Even if Star Fox: Grand Prix ends up being a crazy, unfounded fan theory, we can’t deny that we’d love to have a new Star Fox game on Nintendo Switch.

The last Star Fox game to be released, Star Fox Zero on Wii U, wasn’t exactly well-received. It wasn’t a bad game so much as it was unremarkable. With Nintendo Switch mechanics, notably the console’s Joy-Con controllers, there’s no denying a new take on the Star Fox series is possible.

Unfortunately, with no word from Nintendo about whether or not they have plans to release Star Fox on the Switch, we’ll have to sit back and keep hoping for the ability to barrel roll sometime in the future.

Pikmin

Compared to other games on this list, a new Pikmin title might be more of a so-so concept. In fact, there hasn’t been strong hype for Pikmin since its Wii U release in 2013. However, there’s no denying that the Pikmin titles are fun little puzzle games with absolutely adorable characters.

We think the Nintendo Switch could do with a little Pikmin, even if the idea of a new Pikmin release doesn’t pack the same sort of punch as Animal Crossing or Star Fox. We’re certain that Nintendo could easily dive into Pikmin again in search of a new hook, especially with the Switch’s unique features. Plus, we know puzzle games can work on the Switch – just look at Snipperclips!

The last “Pikmin” title (Hey! Pikmin) released for Nintendo 3DS just last year, proving that Pikmin can be made with a handheld focus in mind. So who knows, maybe Nintendo is at the drawing board for Pikmin right now?

F-Zero

The Nintendo Switch needs a dedicated racing game, especially for the older gaming crowd, and we can think of no series more fitting than F-Zero. We haven’t had a new entry in the F-Zero series since Climax for Game Boy Advance in 2004, so there’s a lot of creative wiggle room for Nintendo to work with compared to other titles on this list.

One might think, with almost 15 years having passed since the release of Climax, that there may not be a strong demand for F-Zero. However, the series has managed to live on in other Nintendo properties including a re-release in 2017 as part of the SNES Classic Edition catalogue. Getting the chance to play F-Zero again on the SNES Classic really drove the point home that F-Zero isn’t a series befitting obscurity.

At least in our opinion. F-Zero was a fun, action-packed racing series with some killer soundtrack tunes. And considering the lack of racing games on the Nintendo Switch, wouldn’t F-Zero be worth revisiting? It’s unlikely, but seeing as how Nintendo is a company that likes surprises, it’s not exactly impossible either.

Luigi’s Mansion

“Wait, isn’t the original Luigi’s Mansion releasing to Nintendo 3DS this year? And don’t we also have Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for 3DS?” Yes, you are correct. There are a grand total of two Luigi’s Mansion titles, both for the 3DS. What about Nintendo Switch, though? We’ve harped on the Switch’s Joy-Con capabilities throughout this list, but you have to admit, they'd be perfect for sucking up spooks using Luigi’s Poltergust 5000.

And, to keep things from getting stale, we'd love to see Nintendo release a Luigi’s Mansion sequel for the Switch rather than simply porting the original and/or Dark Moon. There are some kinks with the suggestion of a sequel, like how Luigi would come by a second haunted mansion after his ordeal with the first. But c’mon, this is Nintendo.

If anyone can continue a series like Luigi’s Mansion, it’s Nintendo! While unlikely as hell, a part of us will continue to hold onto the hope that one day we may get a brand new Luigi’s Mansion title. One that’s specifically designed for Nintendo Switch.

Pokemon Stadium/Pokemon Snap

Even considering the upcoming release of Pokémon: Let’s Go! Pikachu and Eevee, there’s a stark absence of Pokémon titles for Nintendo Switch. The Wii U had Pokken Tournament, which we can’t deny would also do well on the Switch should it get a re-release (like Mario Kart 8). However, there are a few other Pokémon titles worthy of release on Switch.

For example, a new Pokémon Stadium or Pokémon Snap game. With the capabilities of the Joy-Con controllers, games like Pokémon Snap could really be brought to life. Both Stadium and Snap have a nice nostalgia factor for hardcore Nintendo fans, and kids who never had the opportunity to enjoy the titles would undoubtedly have a blast checking them out.

It’s hard to pick one over the other, so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for both. Maybe if Pokémon: Let’s Go! Pikachu and Eevee fare well it’ll motivate the company to explore other Pokémon properties in the future. What do you think? Would you love to play Pokémon Stadium or Pokémon Snap on Nintendo Switch? Let us know!
