Indie boss-battling platformer Cuphead has sold over 3 million copies.
Developer Studio MDHR announced the impressive figure for their indie title with a blog post which read: "It’s hard for us to express just how appreciative we are to everyone who has played and enjoyed our niche little run & gun game with the wacky rubber-hose characters."
The brutally tough platformer sold over 1m copies in its first two weeks, no doubt thanks to it's painstakingly gorgeous, hand-painted art style, designed to emulate cartoons of the 1930s.
To celebrate the occaision, Cuphead is now on sale at 20% off on both Steam and Xbox. Studio MDHR also said that more giveaways would be coming in the next few days on the game's Twitter and Facebook pages. The blog post also highlights some of the team's favorite events of the year, including an impressive speedrun showing of the game during this year's Summer Games Done Quick.
For players who succeeded in besting all of Cuphead's roster of villains, a DLC expansion titled the Delicious Last Course (or DLC for short) is planned to release some time in 2019, though no date has been confirmed yet. The expansion adds Ms. Chalice as a new playable character, which possibly means we'll be getting three player co-op as an option. If you struggled as much as we did with the game, an extra hand(gun) will surely be useful!
StudioMDHR teased that a few more bits of information will be on the way before the end of 2018, so we'll be keeping a close eye for further announcements in the coming months.
