If you want to go fishing in Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll have to play your way through Chapter 2 of the game. Eventually, the Pouring Forth Oil – III questline will give you an opportunity to speak to John Marston in your camp. After talking to Marston, you’ll get a new quest icon for Abigail Roberts. It’s a pretty simple quest that requires you to take her son Jack fishing. Completing A Fisher of Men will then reward you with this new-found angling ability. All you have to do is take Jack down to the river and follow the in-game tutorial to learn the ropes. The quest’s only requirements are to catch two fish, so when you’ve obtained your haul simply deliver Jack back to camp. Once the quest’s completed you can head to any body of water and let your fishing fantasies begin.

To access your fishing pole, hold L1/LB down to bring up the Weapons/Items wheel. Press R1/RB to look at the Items section, then use the right stick to select the Hunting section in the bottom right. Press L2/LT and R2/RT to browse through the options until you get your fishing pole. When you have your fishing pole equipped make sure you attach some bait by pressing and holding L1/LB again. The bait and location will impact the kinds of fish you can catch, so if you want to catch them all, you’ll need to do a bit of studying.
