The unfortunate news is that you’ll need to have a good chunk of time in Atlas before you can craft the grappling hook. Before you can make it, you’ll need to have unlocked the Basics of Piracy skill. If you’re not already there, the Piracy skill tree is reached via the Seamanship Discipline. Still not there? You can unlock Seamanship through the Construction & Mercantilism tree. That makes the overall path as follows:

Construction & Mercantilism -> Seamanship Discipline -> Piracy (Basics of Piracy)

The Basics of Piracy Skill is at the top of the tree, so at least it should be easy to see what you’re working towards. Once unlocked, you’ll now be ready to craft a range of pirate tools, but we’re here for the grappling hook.

You’ll need a Smithy to build the grappling hook, but chances are that by now you’ve already made one. From there you simply need to harvest the right materials to craft the tool. Here’s everything you need:

  • Fibers - 160
  • Hide - 4
  • Metal - 16
  • Wood - 2

After crafting it, make sure you keep these ingredients topped up as the tool will wear down over time, losing durability. To repair it, all you need to do is return to the Smithy and spend some more of the resources listed above.

With the skills to craft the grappling hook, you're well on your way to mastering Atlas, but we’ve got more guides for you to make use of, including our guide to building a taming pen that’ll help you turn animals to your side.
