How to fix connection problems in Anthem

If you're having trouble connecting to Anthem's servers, we may be able to help.

Anthem mixes an involved story with multiplayer questing and exposition, but as with any modern multiplayer title it comes with its fair share of server issues too. Anthem has had a particularly bad first launch, running into several connectivity and server issues that result in players being kicked out of the game. While there’s no guarantee the solution below will work or you, we had a lot of luck fixing connection problems in Anthem with the following steps:

The first thing to note is that Anthem’s connection problems are very common, so you’re definitely not alone if you’re struggling. Hopefully this means we’ll get patches for the game in future that will improve the situation, but for now we’ll cover the only method we've had some success with.

To help with server connection issues, we recommend forwarding the ports for the game. Don’t worry if you’ve never heard that term before, as it’s extremely rare that you still need to do it for modern games. Anthem may be the first time in over a decade that we’ve used port forwarding. Thanks to our friends at Shacknews for the tip.

Port forwarding is essentially telling your router to let information through specific ports that the game wants to use. There are some minor security risks to this, but so long as you have firewall and antivirus, you should be fine.

Port forwarding can be done by logging in to your router’s admin page, which requires entering your router’s IP into a web browser. You should be able to find this, along with a guide on how to port forward your specific router by googling the brand and model.

Once you’re logged into the router and on the port forwarding page, you’ll want to open the following ports:

If playing Anthem on PC:

  • TCP: 8080
  • UDP: 3659, 21000-26000

If playing Anthem on Xbox One:

  • TCP: 1935,3478-3480,8080
  • UDP: 3074,3478-3479,3659,21000-26000

If playing on PlayStation 4:

  • TCP: 3074,8080
  • UDP: 88,500,3074,3544,3659,4500,21000-26000

Once you’ve done this, give Anthem another go and see if your situation has improved. We hope this guide has helped you connect more reliably, but if it hasn’t then we’re afraid you’ll just have to wait until EA take a look at their servers or start issuing some patches.

Now that you’ve (hopefully) learned how to fix connection problems in Anthem, make sure you take a look at the rest of our guides, tips and tricks for the game. We can help you level up faster, and also teach you how to customize your Javelins or add a new lick of paint.
