To start, yes there is a local co-op option available in Mortal Kombat 11 along with online multiplayer. To access local multiplayer, you’ll need to navigate to the main menu and pick “Fight” before setting your parameters. For example, whether you’re fighting against other players locally, or against the CPU.

In the Fight menu, you’ll be able to directly select a “Local” option for local multiplayer. After that, simply ensure your friend has a controller that’s set up and ready to go. In addition to casual fighters through the “Local” co-op setting, there’s a “Tournament” option available for local co-op that ups the ante if you and your friend wish to be a bit more competitive with one another.

To set up a private lobby, you’ll need to select “Private” from the Fight menu and then invite people over from your friends list. Meanwhile, Mortal Kombat 11 also offers online multiplayer if you want to test your skills against other players across the globe. Again, online multiplayer is available in the Fight section of the menu.

Rather than select “Local” you’ll want to choose “Online” and then set your parameters. For example, whether you want a quick match, or a ranked match. Similar to local co-op, you can create your own lobby in order to play against players of your choosing, but in an online setting. To completely remove other players from the equation, you can pick “AI Battle” from the Fight menu and test your skill against the CPU.

The CPU has varied difficulty settings, allowing you to get some training in before smashing your friends in either local or online multiplayer.
