Not only can you select your difficulty at the beginning of Gears 5, you can adjust it at any point in the Campaign if you find the option you chose either too easy or too difficult.

When starting up a new Campaign in Gears 5, you'll notice four difficulty setting options including Beginner, Intermediate, Experienced, and Insane. As expected, newcomers and those looking to breeze through Gears 5 without too much pushback should select an easier difficulty setting like Beginner or Intermediate. For a challenge, harder difficulty settings like Experienced and Insane can offer a nice grind.

Selecting your difficulty at the beginning of the game is as easy as scrolling through and pressing your desired option when prompted. However, changing it later on can be a bit more obnoxious. To change your difficulty mid-game, you’ll want to run through a few quick steps which we’ve bulleted and explained down below.

  • Hit the “Menu” button on your controller.
  • Choose Options from the Menu, then Game.
  • Adjust your difficulty setting (Beginner, Intermediate, Experienced, Insane).
  • Save your selection, then resume the game as normal.

To adjust your difficulty in Gears 5 after starting a Campaign, you’ll want to tap the Menu button on your controller, then select Options. From there, choose “Game” and seek out the difficulty settings list. For example, you can switch from Experienced to Intermediate or Beginner to Intermediate if needed. After making your choice, save your settings, then resume your Gears 5 campaign as normal.
