Vampyr stalks onto Nintendo Switch this year

Dontnod's action RPG sinks its teeth into a new console.

Dontnod’s teeth-heavy action-RPG Vampyr will be getting a Nintendo Switch release later this year.

It’s been a busy week for Nintendo fans, with Smash reveals, SNES games on Switch, and a tease of some kind of strange rubber ring fitness device. Don’t be too surprised, then, if you missed out on some of the other exciting news that’s been going around for the hybrid console, including the surprise announcement of Vampyr’s Nintendo Switch launch date.

Vampyr is due to release October 29 on Nintendo's platform, with preorders available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop. There’s no incentive to preorder or any extras for picking up a copy on Switch, so it’s probably best to wait until it actually releases to be sure the performance is up to scratch.

The game puts players in the shoes of Dr. Jonathan Reid, a man of medicine who’s fortunes are rather suddenly changed after being turned into a vampire. Reid battles with his urge to drink blood and the desire to help, not harm those around him. It’s up to you to find a way to sate his desires without destroying the lives of those around you.

Vampyr originally released in June last year on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Our own Morgan Shaver rather enjoyed it, describing its take on horror as a “delightful breath of fresh air.” Here’s our full review if you’re interested to find out more. It proved fairly popular, with Fox 21 Television Studios even picking up the rights for a TV show

With Vampyr, the Witcher 3, and Divinity: Original Sin 2 all coming to Nintendo Switch, it feels like plenty of developers have cracked porting seemingly demanding titles to the Switch. So what would you like to see make the jump next? Let us know in the comments below.
