PlayStation 5 launch title wishlist

New PlayStation 5 details have emerged courtesy of a blog post from Jim Ryan, President of SIEE. Along with a confirmed “Holiday 2020” release window, some of the innovations gamers can expect from the PS5 controller were teased in the post, including the use of haptic feedback in place of rumble technology.

The use of haptic feedback is particularly noteworthy as it gives game developers more tools to play around with in order to boost the player’s sense of immersion. Something else we found interesting is that Sony addressed games like Ghost of Tsushima, noting the intent is still to release on PS4 rather than PS5.

With Death Stranding and The Last of Us Part II also releasing on PS4, the door has been left wide open when it comes to launch titles for the PS5. What sort of games does Sony have up its sleeve? Taking a guess, we’ve put together a wishlist of games we’d love to see announced as launch titles for the PlayStation 5!

Horizon Zero Dawn 2

One of our favorite games on PlayStation 4 is Horizon Zero Dawn, and we're really hoping to see a sequel come out as a launch title for PlayStation 5.

One of our favorite games to play on PlayStation 4 is Horizon Zero Dawn from developer Guerrilla Games. Released in 2017, it’s not outside the realm of possibility for a sequel to be in development for PlayStation 5, though nothing of the sort has been confirmed by Guerrilla as of the time of this writing.

Reading through the blog post for the PlayStation 5 and its new controller, we noticed a sentence on haptic feedback possibilities that reads, “Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain.”

The mention of drawing a bow and arrow made us think of how good it felt to draw our bow in Horizon Zero Dawn. Even though there are plenty of other games on PS4 that incorporate these mechanics, a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn is very much needed, and what better platform to build upon its successful foundation with than the PS5?

New Gran Turismo Game

The PlayStation 5 will offer new racing games, and we're hoping a new Gran Turismo title will be among them.

The haptic feedback offered by the PlayStation 5 controller practically screams “racing game” when it comes to obvious potential uses. While a variety of racing games have released for PlayStation over the years, Gran Turismo Sport for PlayStation 4 was a huge standout.

We know that the PlayStation 5 will have at least one racing game, that much is for certain. If it’s not Need For Speed, it’ll likely be Gran Turismo, and between the two we’re leaning towards wanting to see more Gran Turismo.

One reason is because Polyphony Digital has committed to maintaining Gran Turismo Sport with constant updates in the years following its release in 2017, and they’ve done a fantastic job. We’d love to see a new Gran Turismo game from Polyphony as a PS5 launch title because we’re genuinely curious to see how the PS5 controller’s haptic feedback presents different road conditions.

You know, we just want to put it through a little crash test.

The Elder Scrolls VI

We’re not sure if Bethesda can pull off a “Holiday 2020” release of the highly anticipated follow-up to Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls VI, but there’s no harm in hoping for it to happen either. We’ll admit that we haven’t been too excited by what Bethesda has been doing as of late (looking at you Fallout 76), but we’re also too whipped to say no to a new Elder Scrolls.

That deal with the Devil has already been signed. With Skyrim ported to every possible outlet imaginable, Bethesda may decide it’s time to share news about The Elder Scrolls VI in early 2020. We can picture them closing out an E3 2020 presentation with a new trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI with a final shot that reads “Coming Holiday 2020.”

With that sort of release window, they’d also be confirming a release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett, opening the door to all sorts of possibilities for gameplay. We can picture it so clearly, it’s almost real… almost. At this point, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope.

Dragon Age 4

Announced at The Game Awards 2018, fans would lose their minds if Dragon Age 4 were to be released among the launch titles for PlayStation 5.

We know that Dragon Age 4 is happening, but we don’t know when or for what platforms. Similar to The Elder Scrolls 6, it doesn’t seem all that crazy to think it may release as a launch title for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett at the end of 2020. With each subsequent release, BioWare manages to outdo themselves when it comes to the Dragon Age series.

What better way to outdo Dragon Age: Inquisition than by releasing Dragon Age 4 on a console like PS5? With hiccups like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem though, we could also see them taking extra time with Dragon Age 4 to ensure it’s 100% perfect as well. Dragon Age 4 was teased at The Game Awards in 2018, so they may want to offer a release date in a similar manner at The Game Awards 2019.

If a trailer shows a release window that reads “Holiday 2020” we guarantee there will be a lot of excited screaming in the audience.

Persona 6

Atlus has indicated that Persona 6 is in production. Could it be completed in time to be a launch title for PlayStation 5?

We have Persona 5 Royal coming out at the end of October for PlayStation 4, but it’s not a sequel to Persona 5, just an enhanced version of the original. Trust us when we say Persona fans are ravenous for that sequel, and what better way to give it to them than as a launch title for PlayStation 5?

Yes, it’s hard to wait until the end of 2020 for a game like Persona 6, but it also makes sense that it’d take Atlus that much time to polish the game. Given that Atlus has already hinted at the fact that Persona 6 is in production, it’ll undoubtedly be available on PS5 at some point whether it’s as a launch title at the end of 2020 (as we hope), or sometime in 2021.

A remake as good as Resident Evil 2

The PlayStation 5 will offer remakes, but will they be as good as Resident Evil 2?

It’s become popular to remake and remaster classic games to the point where we pretty much expect consoles like the PlayStation 5 to offer at least one. The only question is… which would be a good launch title? Thinking this over, a few possibilities come to mind.

With the success of Devil May Cry 5, a remake of the original Devil May Cry seems likely, especially when you factor in previous comments made by director Hideki Kamiya. According to Kamiya, he would “love the chance to remake [Devil May Cry] with modern technology” and what better technology than the PlayStation 5?

Other items on our remake wishlist include Twisted Metal, Baldur’s Gate, and Legends of Legaia. We also expect to see another Final Fantasy remake should Final Fantasy VII perform well in sales, which it probably will. Now, we’re curious to hear your thoughts. What game would you love to see remade or remastered for PlayStation 5? Let us know in the comments!
