Epic Games recently added the Harpoon Gun to Fortnite, prompting gamers to look into the best ways to use this new item. Given that patch notes have yet to be released, jumping into a Fortnite match to seek out the Harpoon Gun for a little trial and error is recommended. The Harpoon Gun is a weapon that’s designed to be simple to use in Fortnite. Similar to the Fishing Rod, the Harpoon Gun can be found in locations all throughout the map in Fortnite, particularly in buildings near bodies of water. Keep in mind that it can be harder to find the Harpoon Gun given that it’s a Rare item. At first glance, the Harpoon Gun looks like any other weapon, though it’s primary use is fishing.
To use the Harpoon Gun, you’ll want to pick it up and have it equipped, similar to the Fishing Rod. Next, head over to a body of water and look for surface disturbance indicating the presence of fish. With your Harpoon Gun at the ready, point it towards the fish and shoot. Doing this will cause a line to shoot out of the Harpoon Gun. If you aimed accurately, you’ll instantly catch something, no waiting required.
The removal of wait times makes the Harpoon Gun the best possible way to fish in Fortnite. Outside of fishing, the Harpoon Gun can be used to deal damage to an enemy with a total of 75 damage dealt per shot. You can also use the Harpoon Gun to pull loot closer to you should you wish to avoid running out into the open, only to get picked off by a sniper.
Note that the Harpoon Gun has a magazine size of 10 shots and a 1.4 reload time. As such, we encourage you to avoid wasting your shots unnecessarily.
