Feast your eyes on the top 5 tastiest food games

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and we can’t wait to chow down on some turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. Of course, with Thanksgiving comes a long, relaxing weekend, with plenty of time to sink your teeth into a few video games.

While some may already have plans to put more time into recent releases like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Pokemon Sword and Shield, others may want something a little different. Something that encapsulates the celebration of cooking a delicious meal.

Whether you’re in the mood for a game you can pick up and put down with ease, or return to again and again, we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ve put together a list featuring our picks for the tastiest games that revolve around (or otherwise incorporate) food!

There's no shortage of cooking games for mobile devices, with one noteworthy example being Cooking Fever!

Cooking Fever

To kick off this list, we felt it was only right to mention Cooking Fever and plethora of related games available on mobile. Whether you own an Android or iPhone, you’ll find the “cooking” genre to be packed to the brim with content. If you want to tune out all of the family bickering around the dinner table this Thanksgiving, try installing Cooking Fever on your phone.

What’s nice about this game is that it offers simple, repetitive food prep gameplay that builds in difficulty over time. Each round is also short enough to where you can finish up what you’re doing before you put your phone down should someone say something to you about the need to spend “quality time” with family.

Heck, you can even play a few rounds while you wait for the turkey to finish cooking! While mobile games often lack depth, they’re a great way to help pass the time, especially if you’re playing titles like Cooking Fever.

Cook, Serve, Delicious

If you enjoy the interactivity of a mobile cooking sim like Cooking Fever, but want something with more expansive gameplay, look no further than Cook, Serve, Delicious. While the original catered exclusively to PC gamers, the sequel (Cook, Serve, Delicious 2) gives console owners access to all of the game’s extreme methods of cooking.

In Cook, Serve, Delicious, you’ll find yourself involved in every aspect of the cooking process from start to finish. To make food, you’ll have to memorize and quickly enter inputs and ingredients, all while balancing the happiness of your customers and the cleanliness of your restaurant. It’s a game that’s surprisingly difficult with a sharp learning curve, but because of its difficulty, is a real blast to play.

You can easily forget your woes as you get into a rhythm of making tasty burgers and pizza for your customers, with the finished food products looking good enough to actually eat. If you’re a foodie, we can’t recommend Cook, Serve, Delicious enough. To us, it feels more satisfying to play on PC with a keyboard.

However, if you prefer consoles, you have no excuse not to grab a copy of Cook, Serve, Delicious 2 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4!

Overcooked

Overcooked and Overcooked 2 offer cooking with the added bonus of co-op multiplayer.

Overcooked and Overcooked 2 are among the most popular multiplayer titles on Nintendo Switch, and it’s easy to see why. Overcooked takes all of the addictive properties of a cooking sim and pairs them with co-op multiplayer, allowing you to work with (or against) your friends and family in order to complete crazy challenges.

Every match of Overcooked feels fast, almost like working in a real kitchen. If you’re close with your family and genuinely want to spend quality time together during the Thanksgiving holidays, we can’t think of a better game than Overcooked.

It’s also available for just about every platform, so even if you don’t own a Nintendo Switch – or are visiting with someone who plays primarily on PS4 for example – you’ll be able to experience the hectic chaos that is Overcooked.

Between the two, the original Overcooked is cheaper in price while Overcooked 2 has more gameplay features. Either one will do, though!

Battle Chef Brigade

Battle Chef Brigade is one of the more “unique” titles on this list, offering RPG elements alongside gameplay often found in cooking sims. Rather than cook everyday items like sandwiches and steak, your culinary expertise will be used to whip up a batch of exotic, monster-filled treats.

Yes, the monsters you fight in Battle Chef Brigade provide ingredients which you’ll then use to make meals while competing in tournaments against other chefs. Crazy, right? We think so!

Battle Chef Brigade is a game that didn’t get nearly enough love when it released back in 2017. It’s one that expertly blends genres together, all while offering a rewarding story about following your culinary dreams. If you’ve never heard of Battle Chef Brigade, or know of it but never considered buying it, take our word for it… this is a game you don’t want to pass up.

Whether you want a food game, a cooking game, or something with a little bit of everything, Battle Chef Brigade has a little something for everyone!

Personal Trainer: Cooking (Nintendo DS)

All of these cooking games are fun, but are there any that actually teach you how to cook? Well, there’s at least one! While we’ve included games on this list that have released relatively recently, Personal Trainer: Cooking is older, having released on Nintendo DS back in 2006. Despite its age and somewhat dated feel, Personal Trainer: Cooking is worth adding to your DS collection (if you still have one).

You can also pick up a used copy along with a Nintendo DS at a relatively cheap price. What’s commendable about Personal Trainer: Cooking is how unique it is, as all of the recipes included in the game are real. Yes, you can take the skills and recipes from Personal Trainer: Cooking and apply them to real life. If you’re a gamer that aspires to be a better chef, you can’t go wrong with Personal Trainer: Cooking.

You could Google recipes online, but you run the risk of having to read through someone’s blog before you get to the steps, and we all know how annoying that can be. In the future, we hope a similar game to Personal Trainer: Cooking releases on a system like the Nintendo Switch as it’d foster a whole new generation of cooking lovers.

Either way, we have to give kudos to Personal Trainer: Cooking... it helped us make a wonderful lasagna!

After looking over our list of tasty food games, we’re eager to hear your feedback. Do you agree with our picks, or did we miss a food game that belongs more than some of our other choices? Sound off in the comments below!
