Xbox Series X has been revealed on stage at The Game Awards 2019, with a launch date of next holiday season.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed the form of the next gen console, which looks suspiciously like a PC tower, and announced that Microsoft's 15 game studios are working on the "largest, most creatively diverse line-up of games in Xbox history".
The first of these games to be revealed for the Xbox Series X is Senua's Saga: Hellbade II, a sequel to Ninja Theory's Senua's Sacrifice. The facial tech looks equally impressive, but we'll need to wait to find out more about what the Series X can do.
No other games have yet been revealed for the Xbox Series X, however Phil Spencer also mentioned that this would be the fastest, most powerful and will set new standards for "performance, speed and compatability" in the Xbox ecosystem.
Spencer has been tweeting about playing previous generation games on the code-named Project Scarlett for the past week, though it's not immediately apparent if Xbox Series X represents the only component of the next-generation Project Scarlett which has previously been rumored to have multiple components or cloud-capabilities.
What we do know about Xbox Series X is that it will have twice the GPU power of an Xbox One X, clocking in around 12 TFLOPS, which supports raytracing technology for fancier lighting. It will have support for 8K resolutions and 120Hz refresh rates in the future, though likely not at launch, and GDDR6 RAM installed. The Xbox Series X will also use NVMe SSD storage for quicker loading of textures and any other level-streaming technology to make your game faster, and it has a huge focus in the case design on keeping things quieter, which is welcome news.
The controller, while looking very familiar, will feature a dedicated Share button to ease the process of sharing and broadcasting gameplay compared to the Xbox One system.
Xbox Series X will launch in Holiday 2020, with Senua's Saga: Hellblade II from Ninja Theory at launch or soon after.
