To get the art gallery in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you first need to find Redd on your island. This new visitor is an art dealing fox who’ll act as your main supplier for Blathers’ museum, but they aren’t around all the time. The first day they appear, Isabelle will let you know in the morning announcement, saying that a suspicious stranger and boat have been seen. That’s your queue to hunt around the island for Redd.

Find Redd and they’ll offer to sell you some art for the bargain price of half a million Bells. Naturally, you’ll say no. Redd will then drop the price to around 5k Bells, at which point you can snap it up if you have the money. Take the art piece you obtained to Blathers and he’ll thank you and say he can now apply for a permit to expand the museum. Wait another day and you’ll find a fresh new wing for you to explore! From then on, whenever Redd visits your island, you can buy art from their ship and keep it for yourself or donate it to Blathers. Your choice.
