Spiritfarer out on Switch later today

Indie management game Spiritfarer about helping spirits to the afterlife gets surprise drop on Switch.

Spiritfarer, the charming indie management game about ferrying spirits to the afterlife, will release on Nintendo Switch later today according to its latest trailer.

The trailer, shown during Nintendo's Indie Showcase today, shows beautiful animated cutscenes and painted scenery promising heartwarming stories about making friends that you'll eventually have to say goodbye to.

Spiritfarer is made by Montreal developer Thunder Lotus, the team behind Jotun, another hand-drawn adventure through Norse mythology. In this latest game, you play as Stella, ferrymaster to the deceased, a Spiritfarer. As part of your ghostly duties you will need to build a boat to explore the world, then befriend and care for spirits before finally releasing them into the afterlife.

There will no doubt be a number of emotional stories to get your eyes wet, but it does look very pretty so it won't be the sort of awful experience that grief sounds like.

The surprise drop of Spiritfarer, which originally appeared at last year's E3 show, is accompanied by a handful of other indies getting hot drops on the Switch eShop today.

Other games coming today include Manifold Garden, A Short Hike, Raji: An Ancient Epic, and Takeshi and Hiroshi. That's quite the haul for indie lovers on Switch today.
