With the revival of Battletoads comes the addition of features like co-op multiplayer. Of course, before you give co-op a try, you may find yourself wondering if the game supports online multiplayer, or if it’s local co-op only. To simplify everything, we’ve put together a guide explaining the co-op that’s available in Battletoads 2020.
Is there online multiplayer in Battletoads 2020?
The quick answer to the question of whether there’s online multiplayer in Battletoads 2020 is no, there’s not. As of right now, Battletoads 2020 supports local co-op only, there’s no way to play with your friends online. With the local co-op option, you can play with up to two other players. To have them join you, all they need to do is turn on another controller.
With their controller on, both you and the other player(s) will be able to select the character you wish to play as. Once everyone has selected the character they want to play as and have locked that decision in, you can then jump into a selected stage and start playing. You can play any stage you want in co-op so there’s no limitations there when it comes to enjoying Battletoads with a friend or two.
Unfortunately, you can’t do co-op with your friends online as again, only local multiplayer is supported right now. It’s a shame as COVID has made it harder for people to meet up for a little couch co-op. Furthermore, you may want to play with a friend and fellow Battletoads fan who lives several states away from you.
In the future, the developers may add an online multiplayer feature to the game. If that happens, we’ll be sure to update this guide explaining that form of co-op multiplayer as well. In the meantime, local co-op is the only way to play with your friends in Battletoads 2020.
