Mass Effect Legendary Edition offers the chance to choose between two different level scaling modes in the game options, labelled as Legendary Mode and Classic. What the game doesn’t do, however, is explain properly the difference between the two. Below, we’ll take you through the differences between choosing Legendary Mode or Classic in Mass Effect Legendary Edition.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition: Legendary Mode or Classic
The key difference between Legendary Mode and Classic in Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the number of levels you’ll gain while playing the original Mass Effect. For the remaster, the level cap was brought down to a more achievable target that pairs up with Mass Effect 2 and 3. There’s no in-game difference in power, though. In fact, there’s very little difference between the two modes at all.
With Legendary Mode level scaling, you’ll be able to reach a level cap of 30. It takes a bit longer to level up each time, but you’ll gain double the talent points to spend each time you do.
With Classic level scaling, the max level cap is 60 instead. Here you’ll gain levels more quickly, but have half as many talent points awarded at each level when compared to Legendary Mode.
Essentially, pick Legendary Mode if you want a consistent level cap across all three games. Pick Classic if you want more regular level ups with regular talent point assignments. Level 30 in Legendary Mode is equivalent to Level 60 in Classic.
The remaster does rework the rate at which you gain experience throughout Mass Effect, but that remains the same whether you’re playing on Legendary Mode or Classic scaling. The original game’s levelling system meant you couldn’t reach the level cap without starting a New Game Plus run, but that’s been changed here so that you’ll come close or reach it in a single run.
