Spike Chunsoft reveals AI: The Somnium Files sequel with new trailer

The next chapter in the Somnium Files stories is coming next year.

On July 1, Spike Chunsoft revealed that its time-traveling mystery box game AI: The Somnium Files is getting a sequel. In a new trailer, Spike Chunsoft showed off the new game, and unveiled its name: AI: The Somnium Files - nirvanA Initiative.

According to the description under the trailer, AI: The Somnium Files - nirvanA Initiative is coming to PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Sbox Series X/S, Windows 10, and Steam some time in Spring of 2022. Beyond that, there's not a ton of detail about what the game will be. Based on the trailer, we know that it is an AI: Somnium Files game, and that it's once again being handled by the ZeroEscape team.

This sequel appears to be following a now grown up agent Mizuki Okiura, who has to solve a new series of serial murders, called the "Half Body" killings in the same futuristic Tokyo as the first game. AI companion Aiba also makes a return to assist Mizuki with her investigation, having helped Kaname Date solve the case in the original.

The Half Body killings originally started six years ago, when the right half of a corpse was found under mysterious circumstances. During the events of this game, the left half is found fresh, with no signs of decay at all. Now it's up to Mizuki and Aiba to figure out what's going on before any more killings happen.
