One of your first goals in Disney Dreamlight Valley should be to upgrade your house. Doing so will not just expand the space within, it’ll also let you get new rooms and expand the storage space available.
In this guide we’ll walk you through how to upgrade your house in Disney Dreamlight Valley so you can start filling your pad with all the items you’ve crafted and collected.
Disney Dreamlight Valley: How to upgrade your house

To upgrade your house in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you can interact with the road sign in front of your house or using the elevator within. Before you can use these features, however, you’ll first need to progress through Scrooge McDuck’s quests and friendship levels.
Scrooge is first found outside his old store in the central plaza of the village. Speak with him to start the quest to open his store and start business flowing again. Scrooge McDuck has three quests you need to complete to unlock the ability to upgrade your house:
- Making Cent of Things
- Scrooge McDuck’s Grand Reopening
- Dreamlight Valley Economy 101
The last of these quests will see you collecting gems to sell at Goofy’s stall in Pleasant Meadow. You can find these by using your pickaxe to mine the black rock chunks in the walls at the edges of the village. Gems are worth quite a lot of money, but you should also sell any rare fish you find in the early stages to afford the house expansion upgrades you’re about to invest in.

Once you have sold enough gems at Goofy’s Stall, speak with Scrooge McDuck and he’ll let you know that he’s installed an elevator inside your house. Return to your home and look for the glowing blue floor panel near the exit. Stand on this and you’ll be able to access the house upgrades menu. Here you can spend increasing sums of Coins to expand the size of your main room, add extra rooms, and eventually even new floors.

Once you’ve unlocked the house upgrades as described above, you can return to the roadworks sign outside the front of your house. Interact with this and Scrooge will offer the chance to expand your house’s internal storage space and provide some extra paint. The first upgrade only costs 2,000 Coins, but after that you’ll need to spend a whopping 20,000 Coins to expand it again.
You can also expand your inventory space in Disney Dreamlight Valley. This is done by opening your inventory (I on PC, Y on consoles - full controls here) and selecting the plus icon at the bottom of your inventory space. You can then pay the request sum of Coins to expand your personal inventory storage space multiple times.

It’s also possible to build items which provide additional storage space. Progressing through Scrooge McDuck’s quests further to help him with the Forgotten Combination quest will unlock the Chest recipe. You can craft this using just wood and stone to place a chest with two more lines of Storage space to make use of. Far cheaper than expanding your house’s storage space!
