Hollow Knight: Silksong delayed beyond the first half of 2023

The metroidvania sequel has "gotten quite big".

Team Cherry has announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong has been delayed.

The hotly anticipated metroidvania sequel will no longer release before the end of July, 2023. That’s according to Team Cherry marketer Matthew Griffin, who shared an update on the game’s development to Twitter.

“We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing,” the message reads. “We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can. Expect more details from us once we get closer to release.”

There’s no indication as to when Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release date has been shifted back to, or even if it’ll arrive in 2023 at all. It does sound like, however, that the subterranean world of the sequel may outsize that of the first game.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has been one of the Nintendo Switch’s most anticipated titles following its announcement in 2019. Fans have been desperately clamoring for an update ahead of every indie Direct released by Nintendo since.

While initially announced as a Switch and PC exclusive, it’s since been confirmed that Silksong will also release on PlayStation and Xbox platforms as well. In addition, it will also be joining Xbox Game Pass on day one of release.

Details around the game are limited, but Team Cherry has confirmed that the game will featured a new protagonist called Hornet who comes with her own unique abilities for both combat and exploration.
