Blizzard posted a note today about BlizzCon 2020. Due to COVID-19 cancellations of events like GDC and E3, many have found themselves wondering as to whether BlizzCon 2020 will actually take place. With BlizzCon 2020 scheduled for November, it’s still far too early to be able to tell for sure.
Blizzard uncertain about the status of BlizzCon 2020
To be proactive and transparent about the status of their gaming convention, Blizzard posted a note today addressing the fate of BlizzCon 2020. Obviously, it’s hard to say for certain where the world will be around the time of BlizzCon 2020 in November. A few events have been cancelled as far out as August, while others remain TBD.
BlizzCon 2020 is one of these TBD events as Blizzard reassures gamers it hasn’t been cancelled just yet. Blizzard remains hopeful that things will look a little better later this year, but will keep the health of the gaming community in mind when deciding whether or not to host BlizzCon.
“While we’re all hopeful things will look better later in the year, the bottom line is that at this point it’s too early to know whether BlizzCon 2020 will be feasible. The health of our community, employees, and everyone who helps with the show is our top consideration. It might be a few months before we know for certain if or how we’ll proceed, but as soon as we have a meaningful update, we’ll share it.”
The post goes on to note that regardless of COVID-19, Blizzard notes that they were still finalizing plans and are continuing to do so. Blizzard confirms they’ll share updates as soon as they know more about BlizzCon. Until then, it’s safe to remain hopeful that BlizzCon will continue as planned this year.
It’d be a shame for all gaming events to be cancelled in 2020, but if that has to happen to ensure the health and safety of gamers, it’s also reassuring to know gaming companies are taking the COVID-19 situation seriously.
